Maui Day 3

Relaxing with coffee took up our morning. John went to Maui Tacos and got us fish tacos for lunch. The plan was to go to Costco and I didn't want to go there hungry! June and I enjoyed the fish tacos but John opted for a "regular" taco. June and I went to Costco and got a few things we needed. The road way at the cut off to Kihei has changed. I can't really figure out what is different but I will scare up a map at some point and figure it out. We played Rummikub in the afternoon, June was a quick learner! Toward sunset time we walked to the beach to watch. It was a little disappointing at first as the sun went behind too many clouds to get a good shot. There were little crabs scurrying around being washed off the rocks. We decided to go up and look at an open house just above where we were staying. (It was nice but had white carpeting!) When we came out we couldn't believe how beautiful the sky was!!! See the photos below of the transformation. It is warmer here with more humidity than we hoped but it does cool off nicely at night. I still think October though March are the best times to come to Hawai'i.

Maui Day 2

Sarento's on the Beach was calling my name this morning. I love their Pacific Eggs Benedict, it's my favorite. That and a Peach Bellini became the big meal of our day. June was the first up, maybe at 5:30a and I followed about 6:30a. I'm not sure what time it was when John got up but he had this little breakfast and we went to Sarento's around 10:30a. They close between breakfast and dinner, opening again at 4:30p for happy hour. We have only been there for brunch. It's so delightful with the beach right there, the breeze, and people watching! After returning we "rested" (as in a nap)! After that we walked to the ABC Store and got a few things. Then it was time for sunset. We watched from the picnic tables as we ate appetizers. The sun slipped from beneath the clouds and glowed brightly until it disappeared "into" the ocean. A lovely and relaxing day.

Maui Day 1

The shuttle got us directly to the airport with little traffic, we did self check-in, got John some breakfast, and by that time we were called to board! SMF is an easy airport! Our flight was uneventful with a bit of turbulence at the end. The pilot warned us of that and it wasn't bad. It was certainly warmer than we expected in September but lovely. We took the shuttle to Advantage car rental only to find a very long line of customers. We joined them of course, I would imagine it was an hour wait if not more. As always they offered special prices to "update" our vehicle from mid-sized to something else. A Jeep Wrangler was one of the updates, and if the kids were with us we would have gotten it. However, we ended up with a Mazda 5, which holds 6 and has the body of a mini van. Nice enough. After finally getting the vehicle we headed toward Kihei without a stop! No Costco this time (though we will go browse) because we don't need large quantities. While we were finishing up at Safeway we got a call that the condo was ready for us! The timing was perfect. After checking in and schlepping our stuff upstairs we relaxed then headed to Moose Mcgillycuddys for a Happy Hour and appetizers - YUM! We had potato skins along with this HUGE Pupu platter. We brought home  the leftovers! We drove back (I forgot how close it was, we could have walked) and then took a walk on the beach. The weather was perfect, though still overcast and we could not see a sunset. We are in HAWAI'I and love it here!

Home to Sacto

We picked up June and dropped off Tony! There was a lot of traffic on Hwy 99, I guess that is typical for Friday. We stayed at Hilton Garden Inn South Natomas, which was very nice. They tried to give us a room with a queen bed and sofa bed, but since my reservation clearly said two queen beds they switched it without an issue. We didn't get the complementary breakfast, which was fine because June and I don't eat breakfast anyway. The beds were comfortable and we slept as well as anyone sleeps the night before a trip. Hawai'i tomorrow!

Leaving

We are all packed, ready to go. I can't find my Maui Blue book but I will get another one at Costco when we get there. Mine is probably out dated anyway! Of course I have the Big Island and Oahu quite handy! Tonight our destination is a hotel with shuttle by SMF and tomorrow we fly out. SOOOOO looking forward to this!!!

Kihei Photos

I happen to find this and had to post it. We love Kihei

Next Week

The day approaches ... Despite many roadblocks in front of us we have managed. We will be leaving a day early and staying near SMF. We found a hotel, Hilton Garden Inn, via ParkSleepFly that where we can leave the car for our two week stay. They have a shuttle to the airport every hour, I hope that works with our flight. I hope my traveling companions will agree to leaving the hotel 3 hours ahead just in case the shuttle is crowded. I'm sure I could have found a better price if I took the time to search but due to current events I just wanted it "done" - so it is. Anyway $180 seems a good price with the parking included. Aloha!
